Plus Size Wedding Dress Shopping with David’s Bridal

Image authenticallyemmie_davidsbridal_plussizedresses2.jpg

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of David's Bridal. All opinions are 100% mine. When Steve and I got engaged in October, I told myself I wouldn't start thinking about wedding planning until we made it through the holidays. So much happened in 2017 that we needed a moment to decompress and be present without starting another big undertaking: a wedding! Now that we're into 2018, I started the year off with an appointment … [Read more...]

Change Overload: 2017 Year In Review

Image authemmie.jpg

2017 was a year of crazy personal changes. To say it went by in a flash is an understatement. This year of chaos was entirely self-induced and very much wanted, but I'd be lying if I said it was smooth and all hunky-dory. But now, having a few minutes to reflect, I am ridiculously thankful that all of this change has happened. It was quite a life reset of sorts, and I'm optimistic that 2018 will bring about some peace, calm, and joy. My 2017 Best … [Read more...]

Home Office Tour

Image authentically_emmie_home_office_tour_decor2.jpg

One of my goals for 2017 was to do more video. But, with the chaos of moving twice, getting engaged, and a bevy of other reasons (tech intimidation was huge), I never got around to it. Before the year ended, I wanted to get a video made come hell or high water! So, today I'm taking you on a tour of my new home office. View directly on YouTube if you can't see it below. When Steve and I were house shopping, one of the must-haves on our list was a … [Read more...]

Sparkling into 2018

Image authenticallyemmie_eloquii_newyears_sequin_dress5.jpg

It's no secret that I'm a fan of all that sparkles. Glitter, sequins, rhinestones, crystals, beading: I love it all! Last year for New Years Eve, I wore a gold fully sequined dress from ELOQUII. I wasn't sure how I would top the gold glitter wrap dress (which is available again here), but ELOQUII did it again with this one: Sequin off the shoulder flare sleeve dress, ELOQUII Clutch, no longer available (similar) Shoes, no longer available but … [Read more...]

Snowflake Bentley

Image 01c.gif

This weekend was the Christmas open house at the Chapman Museum where I do my volunteer work.  Each year there is a different theme for the holidays. This year was featuring Snowflake Bentley, who was the first person to photograph snowflakes through a microscope. It seems appropriate for this post considering all the snow falling across the US. Bentley lived in Vermont, actually with his mother for his entire life.  He would go outside with a … [Read more...]

Universal Standard x Danielle Brooks Collection

Image authenticallyemmie_universalstandard_review_daniellebrooks7.jpg

I love when designers bring new styles and collaborations to the market. Universal Standard is known for elevated, modern basics that are anything but basic! Tomorrow (11/14), the Universal Standard x Danielle Brooks collection launches! The Tria Collection is a set of 3 pieces designed by the Orange is the New Black star. It includes a set of overalls, an off the shoulder dress, and a poplin shirt dress, which I was able to try: The Danielle … [Read more...]

Votes for Women

Image IMG_5460b.jpg

This weather is crazy here! We’ve been in the 70s for the last few days and it doesn’t look to change. Saturday morning we did go out when it was colder just because we needed to ride early. We went up to the lake: It was really perfect riding weather. No breeze and no people!  It’s definitely a muted fall here. Riding with my favorite partner: I have to tell you – I do not know how John goes without sunglasses. He … [Read more...]

October PSA

Image IMG_5303b.jpg

October is breast cancer awareness month, even though every month you should be doing your own self exams. I had my mammogram this year. If you are not insured, you may be eligible for a free mammogram. You can find information on that at the National Breast Cancer Foundation where they can help you find a facility near you – or through the CDC program called NBCCEDP Early detection is key for the best outcome. I just realized that I … [Read more...]

Lately

Image IMG_5150b.jpg

I didn’t get a blooms post done on Friday. There wasn’t really anything new, but I did get some pictures of butterflies! I saw them out the window on Friday afternoon and ran out quick with my phone. There were 3 monarchs on my zinnias, which is really exciting for me! They are “new” butterflies, which you can tell because they aren’t tattered at all.  Monarchs only live for a few weeks except for the migration … [Read more...]

Faux Fall

Image leota.jpg

Man alive, I'm tired of this faux fall! The calendar (and pumpkin spice lattes) say it's fall, but this heat is bananas! Hopefully the weather will cool off soon and we can start layering. This Leota faux wrap dress was in a recent Gwynnie Bee box and I threw on my favorite denim jacket for a casual look. Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Gwynnie Bee and contains affiliate links. Image IMG_6200b.jpg

It’s that time of year – the Adirondack Balloon Festival!  There are just so many great things in our area and this is one of them. The crowds are quite large and traffic is a nightmare on one of the main roads near our house. There are 6 scheduled launches starting Thursday night small launch, but they are all weather dependent.  No flights were cancelled this year, although Thursday night they didn’t fly because of breeze. We … [Read more...]

Choosing Home Paint Colors

Image liz-toombs.jpg

When I was getting my old house ready for sale earlier this year, I knew the number one thing I wanted to do was paint the exterior and much of the interior. The interior felt a little stale, with paint from the early 1990s; and the exterior… was pink. I wanted to select colors that would appeal to a wide range of people and stand the test of time. The problem was that I didn't have time or money to waste on getting the colors correct. I … [Read more...]

Wake me up when September ends

Image house-staging.jpg

To give you an idea of how behind things are because #adulting, this was supposed to be a Transparent Tuesday post 3 Tuesday's ago. I was going to talk about some things coming up, and ended up getting sucked in by life. Change is hard. But all of these changes right now are leading to something great. I got a little caught in the weeds (thanks, anxiety) but my focus is starting to come back. July was full of chaos. Packing up a home of 10 years … [Read more...]

Meadowbrook Preserve

Image IMG_6140b.jpg

Sunday I did a little solo hike. The afternoon was really nice and I decided I wanted some foot work instead of bike work.  Since I was going alone, it’s all about safety and I went to our local nature preserve, which you can’t get lost in and is really close to home. It was a sea of Joe Pye weed and goldenrod: . There are several loop trails through this totaling 2-2.5 miles all together. I went around most of them with a little … [Read more...]
